
Astrid Tista is originally from the community of Chuateguá Parte Baja, municipality of Rabinal, Baja Verapaz. She holds a certification as a Community Development Technician and is currently pursuing a degree in Agricultural Engineering at the Universidad Rural de Guatemala. She is a former scholarship recipient of Voces y Manos and the first member of her family to pursue university-level education.
She is an Agroecology Promoter at Voces y Manos. In her role, she develops community training and strengthening processes through workshops on ancestral and sustainable agroecological practices, exchange of creole and native seeds, conservation and improvement of soil fertility, promotion of biodiversity, use of natural repellents, and preparation of organic fertilizers.
She has more than four years of experience in agroecological projects, having collaborated with the Asociación de Comités de Producción Comunitaria (ACPC) in the preparation of organic fertilizers using mountain microorganisms, and with the Asociación de Forestería Comunitaria de Guatemala Utz Ché as a field promoter in agricultural projects.
Her professional path reflects a strong commitment to community development, the revitalization of ancestral knowledge, and the promotion of agroecological practices oriented toward Buen Vivir.
